Local Lib Dem campaigners are working with Lib Dem MPs in Parliament to demand a re-think on the government’s plan to scrap the Winter Fuel Allowance for pensioners except those claiming Pension Credit. 

Lib Dem Council Group Leader Tom Livingstone said: “Of course millionaires don’t need the Winter Fuel Payment but scrapping it for anyone who isn’t on Pension Credit means lots of people in our community, and across the country, who do need the winter fuel allowance will unfairly lose out. This isn’t the right move. That’s why we’re calling for the government to re-think their plans and introduce a fairer system for any changes to the Winter Fuel Allowance.”
